Lot 1909 CUBA (under Spain), 1 real-sized silver proclamation medal, Isabel II, 1834, Habana (Havana), NGC AU

CUBA (under Spain), 1 real-sized silver proclamation medal, Isabel II, 1834, Habana (Havana), NGC AU 58, finest known in NGC census, ex-Medina. Fonrobert-7739; Medina-415; Herrera-45. 30 mm. Obverse with Havana arms (crowned shield with three castles and a key) below a radiant star, legend ELISABETH II HISP ET IND REGINA; reverse with ACCLAMATIO / AVGVSTA / VIII FEB / MDCCCXXXIV / HABANA. at center with reeded border, smooth edge. A beautiful example of this Havana proclamation design which, though technically graded AU 58, has the eye appeal of a Mint State piece bearing plentiful mint luster and sharp details, making this a grade rarity due to the lack of protective raised rims for this design and evident by being the sole finest example in the NGC census beyond just one other in AU 53, also with important pedigree. Pedigreed to the José T. Medina Collection (stated on label).
