PHILIPPINES (under Spain), Manila, 8 reales, Isabel II, crowned Y.II. countermark (Type IV, 1834-37) on a Santiago, Chile, "volcano" peso, 1834 IJ, NGC AU 50, c/s AU strong. Cal-668; KM-108. Choice example on the popular Chilean volcano host, with an unusually bold and fully detailed crowned Y.II countermark placed prominently above the volcano, all deeply rainbow toned, sharp host details, a particularly desirable combination of a straight-graded AU host and AU strong countermark (not to mention that it is conservatively graded, in our opinion).
