COLOMBIA, copper-nickel specimen pattern 1 peso, 1963, lettered edge, rare, PCGS SP64, "top pop," ex-Eldorado. Restrepo-P252; KM-unl. Bright and lustrous, a rather "mid-century modern" design with very few traces of contact on the exposed open fields (an invitation for incidental marks), noted by the Eldorado cataloger as "Listed in Restrepo as white metal, though this appears to be a standard cupronickel planchet," tied with one other for finest in the PCGS census. Pedigreed to the Eldorado Collection (Stack's Bowers auction of August 2018, lot 42302).
