MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, 1701 (L), posthumous Charles II, long and curvy shape ending in points, very rare. S-M21; KM-unl (46 for type); Cal-661. 25.52 grams. Bold full 701 of date (surely one of the clearest on record) with full oM but assayer off the flan due to its oddly curved shape (looks like the State of New Jersey), peripherally flat otherwise but with full shield and cross showing well-detailed castles despite a light strike overall, AVF with light toning and traces of verdigris. With collector tag M-S3-39 ("New Jersey"). Pedigreed to the Plvs Vltra Collection (Soler y Llach auction of October 2021, lot 1381, acquired from J.A. Herrero in July 1991).
