MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer Gothic R (Rincón) at bottom between pillars, motto as PLVS in rhomboid panel, rare. Nesmith-6d type; Cal-116; S-M1; KM-16. 12.20 grams. Despite areas of surface corrosion and horn silver, an overall solid and well-detailed example with virtually full legends and interiors, toned in crevices, small gouge in shield. This type with a rhomboid panel was produced late in Rincón's tenure and is one of the last emissions, as seen by P/R in the next assayer, and used instead of a rounded panel by the three subsequent assayers in the Early Series. Recovered from: “Golden Fleece Wreck,” sunk ca. 1550 in the northern Caribbean
