COSTA RICA, 8 reales, "lion" countermark (Type VI, 1849-57, later restrike with original rusty die) on the obverse of a USA Morgan dollar of 1879. Bruce-X20. A spurious issue but documented in the Standard Catalog of Unusual World Coins and still of interest to Costa Rican collectors anyway. Deeply struck AU countermark on an XF host coin with richly toned surfaces.
