Obverse with large bust of Santa Cruz between flags, Santa=Cruz / [rosette] 1838 [rosette] in exergue; reverse with castle (arms) below stars inside wreath within legend EL CUZCO AL INVICTO PROTECTOR DE LA CONFEDERACION. Lightly toned over muted luster, AU- with light old scratches to right of castle, struck to proclaim in Cuzco the new role of Supreme Protector bestowed the year before upon military hero Santa Cruz.
