GUATEMALA, Guatemala City, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles IV transitional (bust of Charles III, ordinal IV), 1789 M, very rare, PCGS XF40, finest known in PCGS census. JP-4E33; Cal-1446; KM-48; Fr-15. Strong luster for the grade (which seems to be based less on wear than on the weakly struck interiors), with choice red toning in legends, slightly off-center obverse with bust of previous king and ordinal IV/III (standard for this date) not mentioned on label, one of reportedly only eight to ten known of this date, previously certified XF 45 by NGC. Pedigreed to the Heritage auction of January 2017 (lot 34282).
