PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales, 1659 V, mintmark * above LIMA, (V) to left and 8 to right, rare, ex-Ugaz. Sedwick-I.8.1; S-L5; KM-18.1; Cal-1243. 27.17 grams. Squarish flan with full pillars-and-waves and cross-lions-castles, bold but doubled full 1659 date (the multiple iterations giving the impression of 9/8, which is not possible), bold denomination 8 to right, lightly toned AVF and particularly rare as non-salvage, since most examples of this variety come from the "Jupiter Wreck" of 1659. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection.
