COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, 1628 (struck in 1633), assayer A below mintmark NR to left, mule, very rare, NGC MS 63, finest known in NGC census, Restrepo Plate (stated on label) and Cover Coin. ANUN-2; Restrepo-M50.3 (this coin); S-B17; KM-unl (cf 4.1); Fr-2. 6.76 grams. Superb full shield and cross-and-tressure with small ringlets, choice full cross on 1E-sized assayer-Pinto reverse from 1628 (full and bold date) that is very similar to the 1626 Cartagena reverse, muled with a 1633 assayer-Anuncibay obverse (full NRA to left), rich gold color, likely from the "Mesuno Hoard" (ca. 1636). Only four are known of this mule issue, this Restrepo Plate example by all accounts being the finest of them all.
