Lot 1488 Large silver bowl with two crown tax stamps, ex-Atocha (1622).

Large silver bowl with two crown tax stamps, ex-Atocha (1622). 645 grams. 11" in diameter, 2½" in depth. Handmade colonial silver bowl, shallow and round with smooth walls and flat base, showing original hammering marks. Two small, circular stamps with elegant crown inside dot border (same as on the Potosí coins of 1649-52) appear on opposite sides just under the rim, likely attesting to royal taxation and official fineness control. Exhibits corrosion and several perforations from long submersion, with bottom fragile yet intact, while the lip and upper section remain solid. From the Atocha (1622), with original Fisher plastic tag and photo-certificate 85A-A086.
