PERU, Lima, heavily gilt copper 2 escudos contemporary counterfeit, 1855 MB, ex-Almenara. cf. KM-149.2; cf. Fr-65. 4.39 grams. Die-struck counterfeit with very heavy gilding (XRF shows as much as 89% gold) that is missing on some high points to reveal a darker copper core (also note the lower weight), with test-cut in edge and surface scratches, actually somewhat lustrous and no worse than XF for wear. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label).
