GUATEMALA, Guatemala City, cob 8 reales, 1745 J, with Guatemala sun-over-mountains countermark (Type II, 1839) on globes, very rare, NGC VG 8 / c/s XF standard. KM-101; host: S-G1; Cal-1252; KM-6; JP-8R13. 26.52 grams. Very thick flan with five sloping sides, the choice but slightly double countermark deeply impressed over the right globe, the host with full date (listed as just rare in JP but we can trace only four others sold in the past 25 years), off-center shield, richly toned all over, more like F-VF in our opinion but in any case quite rare without a "details" limiter. Unfortunately, the NGC census only lists it as a countermarked coin, with no straight-grade examples listed by date after 1734. Pedigreed to the Darby Collection of Guatemala Silver Cobs.
