Lot 822 ARGENTINA (River Plate Provinces), La Rioja mint, gold 8 escudos, 1833 P, NGC AU details / repaired.
ARGENTINA (River Plate Provinces), La Rioja mint, gold 8 escudos, 1833 P, NGC AU details / repaired. Janson-18; KM-21; Fr-2. Bold strike for the type, giving the coin a natural and appealing look, with full sunface showing complete rays, clear legends, the fields evenly toned with tiny copper spots throughout. Reverse with full arms, flags and trophies, wreath well defined, rims complete, rich gold color with traces of original luster in protected areas. Light smoothing and repair in the fields as noted by NGC, yet a very attractive specimen overall. A scarce provincial issue from the short-lived La Rioja mint, struck during the turbulent post-independence era of the River Plate Provinces. Seldom seen with such bold detail and original color, an important and desirable gold type in the early Argentine series.
