Lot 779 BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 2 reales, Philip III, assayer Q, unique error with M for H in king's name.

BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 2 reales, Philip III, assayer Q, unique error with M for H in king's name. S-P17; KM-8; Cal-627. 6.93 grams. Things were getting sloppy at the Potosí mint ca. 1615 when assayer Q was in charge and the coins began to show transposed lions and castles and incorrect spellings and punches, the present piece being a prime example with M substituted for H in the king's name ("PMILIPPVS"), here very clear due to the shape of the flan (minimal legend visible otherwise), the cross and shield full and evenly struck with light toning all over, Fine for grade.
