MEXICO, Mexico City, 1 real, Charles-Joanna, "Late Series," assayer S to right, mintmark M to left (M-S), very rare, NGC XF 45, ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith-76; S-M8; Cal-67; KM-9. 3.31 grams. Broad flan with bold and full interiors and nearly full legends, all slightly off-center, with contrasting sediment in crevices. Unlike other denominations from this assayer, in 1R only M-S coins are known (none with S to left), less than three dozen in all. Pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
