UNITED STATES, San Francisco mint, gold Coronet Liberty Head double eagle ($20), 1857-S, PCGS AU55 (SS Central America Shipwreck Gold Foil Label). KM-74.1. A very beautiful shipwreck piece that bears only the lightest of surface friction to denote any pre-sinking handling while retaining the bright mint luster and sharp details one might expect from a coin fresh out of the mint. Rich golden toning is prevalent along the edges and in some spots across and around Liberty. Recovered from: S.S. Central America, sunk in 1857 off North Carolina
