PERU, Lima, gold cob 4 escudos, 1709 M, rare, NGC MS 63 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), finest known in NGC census, ex-McGregor. S-L28; Cal-2003; KM-unl (37 for type); Fr-8. 13.43 grams. Fabulously lustrous but a little soft in strike, with full pillars-and-waves and cross-lions-castles that are just off-center enough to create a full king's name PHILIPPVS, the best we have seen or heard of. From the 1715 Fleet, with Sedwick photo-certificate, pedigreed to the McGregor Collection (stated on label).
