PERU, Lima, pillar 4 reales, Charles III, 1771 JM, neither mintmark dotted, very rare, ex-O'Brien, ex-Pat Johnson. Yonaka-L4.71a; Cal-829; KM-63. 12.83 grams. Richly toned About Fine with weak rims and very weak QUE in legend (symptomatic of this date) but clear mintmarks without dots, which Yonaka rates R3 (mintmark varieties not noted in Calicó or KM). Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection, with his tag, and to the Pat Johnson Collection.
