PERU, Lima, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles IV, 1792 IJ, Lima-style bust, rare, NGC AU details / obv cleaned, ex-Almenara. Cal-1454; Fr-41; KM-98. Choice luster in legends, parts of rims slightly crude (as made) but overall well struck and with no more than the usual amount of hairlines and light wear (should be AU 58, in our opinion, perhaps even better than the only other example in the NGC census at AU 55). Unfortunately, neither NGC nor any of the references note that the first two years of post-transitional Charles IV from the Lima mint show a markedly different bust with more wig curls and a shorter head (compare with the next lot, for example). Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label).
