One side with Dutch and British sailing ships in battle with curved HOEZEE. DE BRIT RUIMT ZEE. starting from left ship and surmounting the right ship, exergue with OP DEN VYFDEN / DER OOGSTM• / 1781•; the other side with wings at top and wreath at bottom above A•V•B• and eight-line inscription in center O BATAVIER. / GOD STAAFT UW REGT. / DAAR ZOUTMAN MET / ZIJN HELDEN VEGT. / HERSTELT HIJDE EER / DER VRIJE VLAG. / TROTS OVERMAGT. / IN EENEN SLAG. Ships side with lovely dark rainbow toning, the inscription side unevenly toned over strong hairlines with luster. The battle here depicted, which ended in a stalemate, has significance to Americans as it concerned the Dutch provisioning of American colonists during the Revolutionary War.
