UNITED STATES, New Orleans mint, Seated Liberty half dollar, 1861-O, Louisiana issue (die W-04), NGC Shipwreck Effect (SS Republic Shipwreck Label). Struck by the authority of the State of Louisiana between its secession from the Union on January 26, 1861, and its admission to the Confederate States on March 21, 1861. Mint State with a very nice and lustrous obverse, reverse a bit grainy from saltwater corrosion yet with plenty of sharp detail. Recovered from: S.S. Republic, sunk in 1865 off Georgia
