Salvaged from an unspecified shipwreck with decent pillars side showing a bold date and both assayers, cross side corroded with spotty dark encrustation. Pedigreed to the P.J. Byers Collection (Ponterio auction of March 1998, with original lot-tag 1282). Also, we note that this coin was lot 604 in the Sotheby-Parke-Bernet auction of June 1973 (one of the classic Real Eight Co auctions).
